Horizons of Freedom of Speech on Social Media Platforms

Social media platforms are an inseparable aspect of everyday life. They can mediate from the most banal interaction to the most complex debate, even at an institutional level. Amid this, processes of social tension arise. In the public dimension, for example, despite having opened the political stand to previously invisible agents and agendas, generating the expectation of a fuller and more participatory democratic experience, social media platforms have drawn attention due to the proliferation of reprehensible practices, which disqualify and distort the processes and institutions. In terms of private life, they expand the perspectives of social interaction, enabling dialogues that were so far impossible, but, on the other hand, they form a communication environment that encourages merely superficial and transitory engagements, with the pulverizing of spheres of intimacy. The question that was sought to face refers to the limits and responsibilities that can arise from the exercise of freedom of expression on the cybernetic environment.
